PAST, CONTINUOUS

exhibition opening | may 2014

Soharóza was commissioned to create a choral performance to be held at the opening of the exhibition Past, Continuous - Contemporary Reflections on the Cultural Legacy of Socialism, reflecting on the Socialistic atmosphere of the 1950's – in contemporary adaptation. The venue of the performance was the dome hall of Fészek Club (a club popular during the socialist era in Budapest), seating about 30-35 people – the piece was thus performed six times by the choir for six different sets of audience. The viewers (or more like participants) stepped into the atmosphere of a café, then were forced to relive an “interrogation” that merged into an industrial sound cavalcade accompanied by rhythm played on a typewriter, and were finally uplifted by the reinterpretation of a labour movement song.
